It’s really an eye-opening and heart-warming experience to see the typically young men being there and fighting through their injuries.
It was my wife Krissie’s first time there, so it was cool she got to see it as well, and experience it, and spend some time with the soldiers. But you have to, and we did. It’s an honor to drive the race car. Without these people we couldn’t be here doing what we’re doing right now, or have the opportunity to drive the race cars, or as fans, sit in the grandstands.

Denny Hamlin came through Wednesday morning’s knee surgery in good shape, and the Joe Gibbs team says “he is expected to make a full recovery and will be in Phoenix as scheduled for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on April 10. Casey Mears will be standing by for relief work if Hamlin experiences any complications. The surgery was to repair the ACL in his left knee. Hamlin twisted the knee in a pickup game of basketball in January.
Gibbs, who runs the team, said “Denny had his surgery this morning and everything went well. He will start rehab immediately, and now we can concentrate on getting his knee back to full strength. The doctors tell us it will improve with each passing week and that he cannot damage it by driving. We expect him to be in the car in Phoenix, but we’re fortunate to have Casey Mears standing by in case he would need to come out of the car for any reason.
